Mafia the game rules

The cards are shuffled, and the moderator will give each player one card. If you are part of the mafia, the object of the game is to eliminate all the other players. If you are not part of the mafia, the object of the game is to eliminate all the mafia players. Each round begins with the moderator telling all players to close their eyes. Then, the moderator has all the mafia players open their eyes. Together the mafia players decide one other player to be eliminated.

This should be done silently by a finger point or the nod of the head. The doctor will silently signal for one player to be saved for the round. Together they will silently pick one player, and the moderator will silently signal if the player selected is part of the mafia or not. This can be done with a thumbs up or thumbs down. If playing with advanced cards, then certain characters will have their own individual end game. These characters will be, in essence, a third faction, working to their own goal.

Ideally, Mafia should have 7 players and a moderator. However, You can alter the game to accommodate more or fewer players. But to get the most out of this game, try to have at least 5 players. Take 5 Citizen cards and 2 Mafia cards, shuffle the cards and give one to each player. Make sure each card is placed face down.

Each player should then take a look at their card. Remember, Mafia is a deduction game, which means players should try to maintain a poker face at all times. Once each player has looked at their card, the moderator will begin the night cycle.

Once the moderator announces night, each player should close their eyes and put their heads down. Then the moderator will tell the Mafia players to wake up.

The Mafia players will then be able to see each other. Using gestures alone, the Mafia players should point to the citizens they want to kill. Once done, they should signal their decision to the Moderator. The Moderator will then announce the end of the night cycle.

The Moderator opens the day cycle by announcing which Citizen was killed by the Mafia. Once every player has opened their eyes, they can begin to debate what has happened.

Any accusation will need to be backed by at least one other player. They should choose and appoint one participant who is a member of the Mafia to end up dead. If there are unanimous voting results, the person is murdered. Before the beginning of the game, the Narrator should secretly contact each participant and inform them of their position. The positions of the participants should never be exposed throughout the play.

Now the question is , how to play Mafia with cards? Well, there is no difference in the process of playing, but the start setup is just a bit different. Below are the points :. Now, how to play Mafia without cards is not a hard question since the setup is explained below, and the gameplay remains the same.

To know how to play Mafia on zoom first things first, get on your Zoom or Google Meet video call and have everyone join in. First and foremost, invite everybody to the Zoom meeting or Google Meet video conference. When all of the participants have established their characters, it is now the moment to begin the play. The game starts close to midnight. There will be no lying! The doctor chooses a single player he believes the Mafia might well have decided to murder and secretly texts the Narrator their title of just that individual.

The Investigator suddenly turns his head and communicates with the Narrator the title of the player whose background he wishes to learn. That brings us to the ending of the evening.

All participants have permission to open their eyes and glance back. The character who is murdered is unable to speak. To avoid fraud, the Narrator should silence their audio. They could, nevertheless, stay on the field and experience the show. Throughout the daytime, all participants should participate and pose questions to determine who between them is a member of the Mafia. Try staring individuals in the eyes and wondering whether they are members of the Mafia.

And that is where those investigative work talents make all the difference! The Narrator keeps time rolling. The narrator does not officially participate in the game, but acts as a moderator. During the night, when all players have their eyes closed, the narrator awakens each role and asks them a question.

For the mafia, the question is: Who do you want to kill? For the doctor: Who do you want to save? For the detective: Who do you want to know about? The game repeats in phases from night to day, night to day, with one person murdered in each phase unless are saved at night by the doctor. While the other players are attempting to figure out who they are, the mafia must lie throughout the entire game and act as though they are civilians. This is, in my opinion, the hardest role, since anyone who knows you well might be able to tell you are lying.

The mafia must strategize together during the day without giving themselves away. If all mafia agree, the player is offed. The Civilians are attempting to figure out who is in the mafia simply by talking it out, accusing, and seeing who is acting suspicious.

The Doctor is a civilian role that, at each nighttime phase, can save a player he or she thinks the mafia has killed. As mentioned earlier, if the doctor saves the right player, that player is brought back into the game. The doctor cannot save themselves. The Detective is a civilian role that, at each nighttime phase, can point to a player he or she thinks is in the mafia and the narrator will nod their head yes or no.
